Hi Martin,
I completely agree with you.
That’s why I only did short tests and don’t plan to use this hybrid solution.
By chance, once the servos and lasers were paired properly, no further issues arose.
For now, I can’t go further without the help of someone in the know.
Kind regards,
Yann.
Hello Beoworlders,
Following Matador’s advice, I tested the still “functional” drive with several discs.
There is no logic in the results, as some CDs with a lot of tracks work fine and some don’t.
On a few of them, the discs is read for a few seconds then stops.
In one case on a short disc, the sound was highly distorted.
I suspect that tuning of the CDM2 laser is not adapted to the CDM4 servo board.
Any advice?
Kind regards,
Yann.
Hello Beoworlders,
To Matador: I did not test a lot of CDs as I was unsure that the mix between lasers and servo boards was safe.
To all: I went further on the CD150 alternative solution and found that the grey 14 pins connector of the Beocenter’s drive is split in two separate connectors (9 + 4 pins) on the Philips one.
The last option is to send my drives to someone who is able to repair them.
Anybody interested?
Kind regards,
Yann.Hello Beoworlders,
To Martin: Sorry but I could not localize the smell.
I always carefully removed the ribbon cables using the ZIF connector on the servo board.
I agree with you, there are sharp angles on the CDM 4 and I hope that the seller took care when he recapped the unit.To all: Today, I exchanged the laser units from one drive to another, here are my findings:
CDM 4 servo with CDM 2 Laser: plays well on an 8 tracks CD except a noise when moving to a track at the end of the CD, but does not work on a 18 tracks one. This behaviour was identical on original CDM 2 unit before the “smell incident”. See these videos:
CDM 2 servo with CDM 4 Laser: same symptom as on full CDM 2 unit after the “smell incident”. See this video:
I come to the conclusion that something is wrong on both servo boards as no perfect result is obtained.
When it comes to lasers, I suppose they are still functional, but I suspect the CDM 2 one needs some tuning and I have neither knowledge and equipment to proceed. I have no idea for CDM 4.
So “I send an SOS to the world” and would be grateful if somedy with the know-how could take over this repair. Of course, I take all the costs.
Thanks by advance and kind regards,
Yann.
Thank you Martin.
The set was VERY dirty when it arrived with a lot of dust inside that I removed with a paining brush and the aluminium lids also need a deep cleaning.
What product can I use to do this?
Kind regards,
Yann.
Hi MM,
Same for me.
Regards,
Yann.
Hi Beoworlders,
Recieved today my Beolink 5000 updated by Pilatomic.
Great job, everything works fine!
The remote control has now a Beo4 look with the screen always on.
Regards,
Yann.
Wrong post, sorry.
Hi,
Thanks Peter and Chartz for your informations.
As I am not particularly skilled with my hands, I’m not very confident in swapping the idlers.
Chartz, I understand what you mean, but I don’t see how to identify which idler is the loudest and how / where to put it.
I think it’s more sensible to digitize my tapes first and will update this thread once done.
Thanks again,
Yann.
Hi Beoworlders,
That’s it, my BL 8000 are now finished:
After an extensive cleaning following Matador’s tutorial:
-New damping material placed,
-Foam tape exchanged with Beobuddy’s supply,
-Bushings of the main transformers exchanged by new ones supplied by Beoparts (part number RP-008 proposed for BL Penta, 3000, 4500, 5000).
They shine like new!!!
My warmest thanks to all contributors of this brilliant thread,
Yann.
Thanks Omminp.
You were right… again 🙂
3 rubber buffers were broken in two parts, the 4th was the only still in one piece.
3 drops of loctite made the job, I feel more secure now.
While the set was opened, I took videos of the moving parts at the 3 speeds. The belt on the right side moves strangely. The set is more noisy when “closed”.
Videos are online on this playlist, if you can’t reach them just tell me: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5Sdc5VmHaOJJCaNR6syj5EfxE5SZrQ_H
PS: The type stated on the schematic is 4136 50 Hz
Kind regards,
Yann.
Hello Beoworlders,
Chartz and Omminp, thanks for your precious informations.
I opened the set and cleaned what I could, including the heads which seem to be OK.
I did not put oil on the idlers, as I don’t know which kind of oil to use.
The exchange of capacitors is unfortunately out of my competence.
The connection from Beocenter to the Radio input on the BC 2000 works.
I kept a connection from the Line socket to an USB soundcard and tested the recording on a laptop. Test was successful.
Good surprise, a small envelope containing the schematic is stuck inside of the bottom plastic case.
2 problems remain:
1: I cannot find how the chassis is held on the wooden frame. I found one screw on the right side, underneath the headphone jack but could not find anything on the left side.
So if I place the set vertically, the chassis tends to get out.
Unfortunately the service manual available on the old site is in German and I don’t speak this language.
2: The set is rather silent on low speed, more noisy on middle speed and supersonic on high speed.
It does not work when placed vertically.
Could a video help someone to diagnose where the defect stands?
Thanks for your help,
Yann.
Hi,
Nobody to help me?
Kind regards,
Yann.
Hi all,
I tested the set and bought it.
By chance, the heads are not worn out, so I can play the tapes.
But Chartz was right, idler wheels must be hard and the BeOcord sounds as a BOeing 🙂
As my project is to digitalize the tapes it is not so annoying.
By chance, the line-out works but the plug is wired in a strange way, as input and output pins seem to be reversed.
So to connect it to my Beocenter 9000, I have to fiddle with Din/RCA/Din adapters.
Tomorrow I’ll check the speaker outputs.
Kind regards,
Yann.
Hello Martin,
Thanks for the info, my mistake is corrected.
Do you have any clue for the remaining problems?
Does the reading of the tork-meter tape video shows something useful?
Kind regards,
Yann.
Update:
I exchanged the belt with a one bought to Dillen a few years ago but never used.
Unfortunately with no complete result : fluctuations while reading are gone but the other defects stay unchanged.
Any clue?
Kind regards,
Yann.
And did the videos give you other clues?
Thanks Chartz,
I just had a look and these parts are for Beocord 9000 and I have a Beocenter 9000
Are you site they are adapted to my set?
Kind regards,
Yann
Thanks Chartz,
What do you mean by tyres?Kind regards,
Yann.
Thanks Omminp,
I’ll check heads very carefully when I’ll test the set.
Kind regards,
Yann.
