Agreed!
These (Sony) lasers are very long lived usually. What symptoms do you have with the unit?
It should automatically drive the sled to the centre after the disc loads,so that the disc can be read.If that does’nt happen,it may be taking too long to load, which could be due to a loose/worn mechanism drive belt(common problem)Also the loading mechanism is probably slow due to dried out grease etc.The computer will block if the loading takes too long.It senses via microswitches attached to the mechanism. These become tarnished with age.
Great machines,worth persevering with.

It’s quite common for the standby supply transformer(T2)to fail,as it’s permanently connected to power.
Check that you have the two standby supplies +15and -15 at the emitters of TR3 and Tr4.
Check that there is about 23 volt dc at the relay coil.
If none of the above are present, check for about 60 volt AC between P1-1 and P1-2 on pcb 01.
If not present, then the transformer T2 has failed. This is a special part made “in house” by B&O,so you need to ensure that you order the correct one for your country.
You can work on the amp/psu assembly by connecting ac power to P4 on pcb 01,but you should find the looms are just long enough to allow connection from the input sockets,if you prop something under the assembly when it’s out of the casing.
It is possible for the relay RLI to stick open too.As you can see, only one set of contacts are employed.

Thanks Johan.
I’ve sent them an e.mail,as they don’t appear to ship to the U.K.?
Good selection of cloth as you say,and very good quality too.

If you search the archived Beoworld information, you should find previous post’s regarding this subject. The same problem arises when needing to operate a B&O dvd player, independant of the tv.

Its good advice to try and find a B&O wall bracket, although alternatives could be fabricated too.
The B&O ones are particularly well made and strong.Remember,it’s a heavy unit,so you want it to stay on the wall and not end up on the floor as a kit?
The wall brackets change hands here in the U.K.for about £150.
