Imagine someone in Japan or ANY non-english country trying to use a B&O product with the word “GO” for play.
How does “go” even apply to playing music? its such a disconnect. Instead of “go” it should be the universal standard of the right facing triangle.
Why do they have a button with a circle and one with a red bar? How does one mean power and the other something else? Whats wrong with the universal icon for power thats used on every other electronic product?
I think the biggest problem is that there is no logic or prioritization in the button layout. Everything is just a grid to make it look nice.
All those 3rd party remotes are horrid looking but they all do have more logic than the layout of the Beoremote 1 which is a masterclass of the worst designed remote ever made possibly by anyone. I dare anyone to feel their way around this remote or use it in the dark.
I came to B&O late and as a UX designer for 25 years I can certainly feel for his issues with the UI. It’s not intuitive, it for sure prioritizes design over usability and at the very least it is unfriendly from a universal language regarding interface elements such as “go” and the red power button. The radio tuner interface looks like a nightmare too.
That being said after you get used to the interface its fine. But this is a strong example of you having to adapt the the UI over it adapting to you.
Any thoughts on the setup and sound?

New beta out. Haven’t noticed anything new. Sources still broken.
I can live with the app if they just fix the missing sources and fix the compatibility when you use the iPad App on your desktop Mac.
v5.5.1 hasn’t fixed any of that sadly.
Looks like app version 5.5 released. I’m not at home right now, but has anyone tried it yet to see if it fixed the missing sources issue?
No sadly, it’s still a hot mess.
As of today my Theatre is on 3.2.1(150) from September 11. Which version is of that you mention as ‘new…today’?
Here is the “New today” version.
“Bug fix and support for beolab 8’s.”
New firmware for the theatre today. Bug fix and support for beolab 8’s.
On a side note ive discovered a bug that effects my theatre when it does a firmware update. After the update even though the theatre is OFF there is a loud low hum coming from all the connected speakers that doesn’t stop. Only when I power on the theatre does it go away.
Anyone else see this?
From a UX perspective the designers at B&O need to understand that when you choose another speaker to add to multi-room the first thing it does it make a big yellow bar fill up to the right of the volume bar which gives the impression that it is going to play at full volume. It’s a really poorly done.
So you can run iPad apps on your Mx Mac which is normally what I do with the B&O app. It used to work fine but with this new official release it looks and functions like a total disaster.
So version 5.4.1 just came out and it is still a total disaster and I’ll be downgrading.
It isn’t showing sources properly at all.
A9 shows nothing but 2 line inputs (Why 2?) and no option for B&O radio or anything else.
My essence shows only line in.
My Theatre shows online USB C line in.
I am having the same issue with only line in appearing for my Essence. No options for B&O radio anymore.
Why do we want transparent screens? So you can see the wall behind the image as you watch TV?
I really hope they fix this serious issue ASAP. they have been very slow with all Theatre releases which was my main concern when buying it a year ago. It should NOT be in this software state so long after its been released.
I’m hoping for a replacement for the BL3 to add to my theatre as hight Speakers
So how will the touch panels on the BL8 work if it is hooked up to a system like the theatre. Will hitting PLAY cause the whole 5.1 system to play (hopefully) or will the 2 BL8 speakers just play independently (God I hope not)?
Maybe someone with some 28’s can comment?
What is going on with the total lack of Airplay 2 and Chromecast? That’s a total pass for me without it.
Hi, The fluid sweet spot requires Ultra Wide-band connectivity which I don’t think was available when Beolab 28 was developed. Kind regards, Steve.
Really makes you wonder why the Theatre doesn’t have this feature either, plus the 28’s come out in 2021. UWB works with iPhone 11 and up which shipped in September 2019.
Im sure we are all confident that with the Mozart platform we are all getting this upgrade right? 😀
