Agreed, B&O wrapping a tv and sound centre is still a much better visual offering than the rest of the industry, especially when motorised stands / brackets are used. So I hope they continue.
But they make no money from TV’s, and if the Theatre centre / system is successful, I can see them thinning out their BV offering to either nothing, or a (extremely expensive) flagship from time to time.
I would suspect that yes, over time this will lead to the Eclipse being withdrawn.
Just my guess though.
If this product can work with other brands, i.e not just LG, well enough, and does well commercially I can see (over time) Beovisions being withdrawn completely.
But that may not be a bad thing anyway, especially if the Theatre speaker / system offers you most of everything a BV does anyway.
Again, just thinking out loud.
Agreed, the LG partnership was wise, although is suspect they had few options – either exit TV business entirely or use LG’s in a hybrid sort-of, sort-of-not BV approach.
Anyway, we’ll know more in a few months I guess.
You may be able to use cheaper things, like the Balance etc (Mozart enabled) as home theatre speakers with this new product.
I’d put it differently when. it comes to picture.
The ~Contour with the OLED has a superb picture quality.
The Horizon has a god awful LCD panel – less of an issue with sports / news I guess, but many dramas and movies these days have dark scenes, and those are pretty close to unwatchable on the LCD which uses global dimming. I lived with one of these (in the BV14, same LCD panel ) until enough was enough, and it had to go back.
In the end, one does get a TV to watch things properly, and ideally very well.
I dont believe it has been canned, judging by the last I heard a few months ago. But by “it” I think one of the options is a Beosystem 5 type unit for facilitating connectivity between TV and Beolabs / Beosounds (either or both, dont know)…i.e. a unit, not a centre speaker with the same functionality (fully fledged sound centre).
How that BS5 “unit” would deal with (power link) Beolabs and Mozart enabled speakers is not clear to me at all, but I guess its technically possible.
Agreed, though customers would presumably want to use a Beoremote with their setup. And while LG offer the requisite B&O app (through the webOS App Store) to enable this, I cant envisage Sony / Samsung / Panasonic etc etc doing the same. Not impossible, just cant see it happening. In which case, you are LG restricted.
Not an issue for the last 5 years or so, but what if LG dont make the move into QD-OLEDs, and fall behind somewhat. Some customers wanting a B&O speaker focussed home cinema setup with a QD-OLED from, lets say Sony or Samsung, would not be able to use thew Beoremote, and we’re in compromise / workaround territory.
Definitely an unclear road ahead.
I dont think either have a slot / space for an Apple TV.
Unless you’re wall mounting though, it should be pretty easy to attach one to the back of either.
When it comes to the Horizon and its OS – the Android OS is one thing (early version, not good), but the general TV OS (there is a B&O non Android part for settings etc)wasnt stable. That may have become better (owners may help out with responses), but the Android OS won’t get any updates really.
The Horizon OS has s (&O) section for settings / setup etc, but mainly what you see is Android OS (some dont mind it, I found it not great). With the Contour, you will see pretty much the LG webOS, which is such better than the Android OS.
There is no B&O based OS anymore on their Beovisions.
Personally I’d steer well clear of the Horizon – the LCD screen in it is god awful. The Horizon only really has a slightly nicer design (than the Contour) in its favour. Unfortunately, its also only a standalone unit (no additional speakers) and is way too expensive for what it is.
Thanks for sharing – unless I’m going mad (possible!) this looks like a slightly updated version of the same table someone shared a few months ago.
Slightly updated in that I see Deezer Flow on there – dont remember seeing that there before. Either way, nice for the Deezer users no doubt.
