I didnt click Control to explore its sub menus I’m afraid.
just got back from my dealer, and was playing with a Theatre setup – on the BR1, I could see the Control option under the list option. So I think you’re all good.
I think Andy’s question is different to music sharing across rooms.
Like me (unless I am sorely mistaken) the question is that if a BV Theatre setup is playing a video source (be that live TV, Netflix or whatever), can one chose a BS2 or A9 (for example) in a different room play / join the audio part of the video/live Tv playing elsewhere on the BV Theatre.
That is / was possible on BV10/11, BV12, Avant etc (i.e those on the BS4 platform) – those BVs have a menu setting for “share audio from video sources”.
Being still on an older BV, like myself, Andy is asking whether that functionality is available on the Theatre. I actually dont know whether it is available on the Eclipse / Harmony either, or whether that option was removed.
Its a use case I take advantage of reasonably often – for example if I’m watching the news, or the cricket etc on my living room BV12-65, I often go into the kitchen and just tap my BS2 which will then pick up the audio / sound from the BV12.
i.e Network Link took care of everything.
I’m popping in to my dealer on Friday, and will try and test out this specific scenario
Thanks, I was wondering if NL utilised / worked through DLNA actually given your prior response. Not an expert, so happy to defer.
The question about sharing audio from video sources remains I guess – both Andy and I are coming from pre-Eclipse BV’s, and the clear menu option to allow the above was both reassuring, and as users we could see it working well.
How this all worked on the Eclipse / Harmony (was the menu setting even there?) is less clear, at least to me. Again, on the BV11 generation, all sources worked seamlessly, irrespective of being internal or external video sources to the BV11.
And the question presents itself again on the new Theatre – I’ll have a go and test what I can at my dealers tomorrow.
Must be me then, though I dont quite see why DLNA is relevant to the scenario in question.
Anyway, I asked Mike (of the podcast) about the Theatre and getting other devices (he has things like M3’s and BS1’s) to pick up the audio part of a TV broadcast playing on his Theatre.
He’s had his Theatre at home for about a week now, and will test it out today.
I’ll come back with his answer.
The answer may not be as comprehensive as Andy / I would ideally like, as he will only be able to test this for sources internal to his Theatre/LG setup, as he has no external video sources connected via HDMI into the Theatre.
So while internal video sources may distribute (their audio) to other products, to fully replicate the functionality of the BV11 (for ex), then we’d need to see it work for external sources too.
apparently the Emerge will re-emerge as a non Mozart speaker.
Which would be very amusing.
thats my guess too, as in it should work.
The app seems to do all the settings for the Theatre, and I’ve seen the section within the app for Theatre settings where PUC device control is setup and assigned.
So it should be ok, but until someone does it at home, its going to be hard to say for sure.
Not sure if you’ve looked at the Beosound Theatre – Technical information thread, but Steve has posted a link to the B&O spreadsheet that has been circulating around. It shows some functionality testing that B&O have done with various brand TVs, including a Phillips OLED.
Not sure if the testing scenarios are as comprehensive as you may ideally require, but its worth a look and may give you an idea of what is possible with the BR1 + Theatre + Phillips.
good question, I’ve asked this before, and never quite been confident in the answers given.
Part of the reason is that seemingly very few require the scenario you describe (although like you, I use that audio sharing reasonably often). Both of my current BV’s are on the same B&O platform version as yours.
When the Eclipse came out, and I asked this question, I was told by a couple of respondents that the older menu / settings option of “share audio from video sources” was not there anymore.
My dealer (though I havent asked the q again for a while) last said to me it was possible – but I’m hesitant. While he (if I remember) can get it to work in the store, I think that is for internal video sources (like a YT video from the Eclipse LG YT app) – but I’d want to see it also work for video sources connected via HDMI.
I’m popping in to my dealer on Friday, so I’ll see what I can test out myself on the newer BV’s.
I’ve spent a hour or so with the Theatre at my dealers, albeit not listening with 100% critical concentration…and I didn’t notice any muffling issues myself.
I’d run the microphone calibration and then see if you notice anything.
Mike (the podcast host) has had his at home for a few days now, and he’s not notice any such issues.
Sticky thread is a great idea.
I imagine we’ll also get software patches / bug fixes quite regularly over the coming year.
So perhaps part of that thread can log the issues fixed / resolved as these roll out.
oh lord, hope that doesn’t apply to the (rare) occasion I have appeared on it!
If so, apologies.
isn’t the ethernet port marked TV intended for that connection (between Theatre and TV)?
I’m pretty sure that will still be the connection path for LGs paired to the Theatre, but good question about whether that needs to be the same connection for other brands.
It certainly looked like this years C series in the instal video that I watched, i.e. an LG.
congratulations!
What TV are you going to use with it?
Guessing an LG, but just asking…
congratulations, what spec did you go for, if you dont mind me asking?!
Hmmm…..is it the following?
Row 3. Beosound Theatre switches TV off at standby – I think this is asking whether the TV in question switches off if the Theatre is idle and goes into standby i.e theatre inactivity also shuts the Tv off.
Row 5. Beosound Theatre switches the TV off (use Beoremote One or app to select standby) – I think this is asking whether the TV in question switches off if the Theatre is put into standby by one of the Beoremote / B&O app….i.e. does the TV in question react to a B&O standby command.
Looking at lots of those rows / scenarios, there are subtle differences between them, though I conceded its not super clear.
sure but the Stage will never gain the ability to use other Mozart speakers as surrounds with TV/Movies.
Why would they even do that, even if they could.
What will a Mozart version of the Stage bring you?
Just asking, not presuming……
Ordered my Theatre today, and 77 inch LG G2.
Will wall mount the basic 55 Theatre with wood lamellas (above my floating cabinet), and separately wall / flush mount the LG G2 77, with some separation between the two. Will live with it for a while, and then see if any extension / widening wings are needed to improve the aesthetics of the setup.
No additional parts required – i.e no Theatre VESA interface, not floor stand, so just the price of the 2 separate elements. While that configuration may not suit all, its what I’ve always wanted (configuration wise), and saves quite a lot vs other configuration options. The VESA interface / motorised stands are expensive and really raise the piece of those types of setups.
Elsewhere, the lack of HDMI Matrix integration is far from ideal. The workaround is liveable though – by using the one matrix output that arrives in my living room for my main matrix connected source, SKY Q set top box, I can use the BR1 to control the SKY box through the Theatre, as that single matrix connection will carry PUC commands back to the matrix. This direct matrix connection will go into the Theatre HDM 2, plus a PUC connection.
The lack of Matrix integration means that any other sources need to be local. I will put an ATV 4K locally now connected into Theatre HDMI 3, and a PUC between them will also allow the BR1 to control it.
That covers 85% of my use cases by source. On the odd occasion when I want to use the BR player or PS5, it will require using the matrix iPhone app to switch sources sent down the pipe to the Theatre, and no BR1 control is then possible (obviously not an issue with my PS5).
Anyway, forgive the long post, but at least (subject to wood lamellas colour choice to come), I’m now done – for my living room, where the BV12-65 will get replaced by the above. Next year, I will change my bedroom Avant 55 to a Theatre 55.
One of the UK websites has pricing options and some transparency.
55 Theatre 5390 GBP
77 Theatre 6190 GBP
so 800 GBP difference for the larger version
Same as the wood cover (vs the grey cloth) – an extra 800 GBP.
