Just doing research for the Essence/IR problem on another thread, found this.

BeoPart 6271214. IR Blaster cable with 3.5mm jacks to RJ45

Everything I see about the Essence I have seen is that it is a BT-remote controlled and that the IR port was placed there for “future” use. But dont take my word as 100% Only 10%.

Also, unless you are a Beo4, say a BR1 or Essence remote, they will need placing in IR mode rather than BT mode.

Attached is all I have from an obsolete Beolink reference manual.

I’m still ripping CDs. I’ve basically re-ripped my original ripped WMA files on the BS5, to FLAC, the re-ripped them all again with a Melco D100 ripper into a Melco N1 music server.

I have also migrated to Qobuz but still buy cheap CDs – often in used form from Amazon. It’s a cheap way of loading up on excellent quality rips which are yours to keep forever…..

I use Jaikoz to extensively re-tag my library to just the way I want it.

im sure my old BS5 can read all those FLACs again, but the age of CDs, rips and hard drives and so on is coming to end. Soon it will all be pay per view, including having your annual BMW seat-warming rental and your electric Mercedes that can accelerate just a little faster. Just hope I can keep all my effort going another 30years or so when it won’t really matter what happens to my FLACs

Each to their own preferences. I saw a picture a few days ago of a 77in, with wings on a table stand on the floor (BV5/9/10 – like) looked absolutely stunning.

im with the low slung cabinet/plinth look to.

                  Go for it!

My opinion, is that the Theatre is a great leveller. I don’t think people should get hung up in speaker envy. If you have Beolabs and a Theatre, go for it and enjoy! It will be a great AV system and envy of many.

There could be lots of things wrong in terms of setting and user configuration. There’s not enough there to really help you specifically. Your hardware should have more than ample bass – even at neutral settings – so genuine concern

The Theatre has a high-speed eArc cable supplied. Ask why they never used it – you paid for it. The old stage cable should go with the stage.

Check you are not in Night mode – that may make a difference.

Check Listening positions >> Select one >> Speakers Included >> Bass Management (120hz)

Check Sound modes >> Select One (movie) >> Advanced >> Check if anything is wrong here (hard to do as reference is not easy)

Failing everything, contemplate doing a complete factory re-set of the Theatre and re-build from scratch?

The wings can be done in-situ just by twisting the TV around. My installer did the same (agonising to watch – but it was part of the Training programme).

I would not be happy with anyone leaving cables behind a TV like that. Get him to install the cables so neat and tidy and correctly bundled and fixed. There is a massive real-estate space on the back of the Panel (not SMI) or on the wall to stick that power strip so you can gain 100-150mm of back-space from the rear.

The top edge of my SMI is nearest to the wall at approx 3-5mm gap. The Theatre rear is a good 25-30mm away (slight tilt of the Table stand). That means the panel rear has to be 60-80mm away from the wall at the base.

@xthx, Very nice setup and a 65” too. I thought it was a 55 from the thumbnail. Is that stand the one in the box? So you mounted the panel to the wall? I got the optional table stand and they installed the full circle of the stand but actually would like the half circle and get it closer to the wall. I wonder if it’s an easy change?

You will need to remove the panel from the SMI.

Then, this video shows the “circle” or “half-circle” plate assembly with 4 screws. https://player.vimeo.com/video/750347084?h=b64cfd67f4

                            I nearly went there. Glad I didn’t.

Ordered a 65in screen and 77in wings. Fortunately, due to delays, I could re-specify and the Dealer was very helpful.

The problem was to properly visualise that a 77in screen is 1771mm wide, 65in screen is 1441mm wide. So 165mm per side for “Eclipse wings look”. The standard overhang is IIRC, 70mm on the Eclipse 65 – so twice the overhang per side. Proportions are not good now.

Also, the finish/design of the Theatre wings is somewhat unresolved being fabricated a 10/12mm thick Alu/Plastic sandwich. The Eclipse wings were substantial rounded box-section for the actual soundbar – not a thin plate hanging in space.

My advice is buy the wings you need to fit your TV or have the soundbar be smaller than the TV. Visuals are better I think?

Sorry, but I have to ask……Why you would want to do that?

I dont understand the application nor the need?

Get the Dealer to come in and fix the problem. You are clearly not happy and you paid the dealer some big cash for this. Make it warranty claim/non-satisfactory item claim.

No printed user guides with the Theatre. All online if you can find it…..and then it is very basic. The BeoApp does a little but it is built around the B&O Television Technical Sound Guide and the layers of settings. There is a very basic LG user guide with the TV panel as well.

To answer your question, my research suggests “be careful” with Apple and of course “how deep do you want to go?” into the subject and your pockets.

This link (going very deep) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-aw9-B3-XI&t=3474s suggests that Apple do a lot of down-mixing for standard sofa viewing at the point of sale. There is also issues like near-field desk mixing etc….so your never going to get the full cinema effect because the sound engineer listened to sounds 2m away.

Companies like Kaleidescape – which I’m currently investigating, offer content which is full-fat uncompressed media – typically 70-100Gb per title, and the cost of the equipment seems like it will make B&O blush. That said, the full Theatrical release – which you will own a copy of, would have to be down-mixed significantly to fit in the BS Theatres capability of 7.1.4.

I think the way the Theatre works, is PL socket 1, takes Front L, Daisy-chain on to Front right. PL2, say to L/R sides (one Daisy chained to the next), PL3 to your BL2 sub.

The Theatre works all this out and distributes the bass based on all 5 loudspeakers, plus the soundbar. There is also a setting in the App where you can set the sub crossover frequency (default 120hz) to your taste.

The way the Beoapp configures, I think the old way of connecting the sub to the Beovision, then branch or Daisy-chain the Front L and Front R speaker from the sub separately is no longer valid (sub filters LFE from front channels only). Rather, Bass is managed, measured, filtered and distributed in a fully system-integrated way.

edit: where you place your sub should be irrelevant. I.e next to one of your front speakers or behind your head. Again, the BeoApp (room sense and mic) help the calibration, and I guess it can tell where everything is placed. The distance measurement from listening position to speaker is very accurate (as good as a room laser I would say)

Although people are talking about 8 wired/8 WISA connections, remember they are paired. So 4 and 4 PAIRs. As such, I would think it is common for people to connect say one outlet (as a stereo pair) to say a BL5 or BL18, and daisy-chain on from there.

This photo shows 2 x “+” of 4 possible “+” on wired power links occupied (Theatre I think auto-recognises plugged in speakers but not their model type) at the first level (one BL8002 and one BL2), and one BL8002 on the second level (Daisy chained to the first level BL8002).

so either way, you are consuming 2 powerlink sockets. 3 speakers, 4 channels. In this way, one assumes the Theatre will calibrate properly.

n.b: I just used the BL8002 as an example of wired powerlink. I’m not into WISA so can’t comment on that side of the connection argument

I am not sure you can – or you cannot at the moment because of software bugs?

If you add a BL2 to the Theatre configuration “+” (there are 2 “+” initially), a second level “+” appears branching from the BL2 icon. However, you can only add one speaker (FL or FR). You cannot add a “+” third level for both FR and FR fed with a BL2.

Now what I have said does not mean you cannot physically send a RJ45 Powerlink to a BL2 and spur-off say a L/R BL5 (hypothetically) and bypass the addition of the BL2 in the Beoapp setup, but I would say the results may not be as intended?

I’ll try and answer this as best as I can. I’m sure many will correct me?

                                            1. The BSTheatre has 7 speakers and as a standalone soundbar, it can fire those speakers to make a pleasant go of spacial sound. I don’t think it can compete with a multi-speaker setup of its own tuning.

                                            2. The BSTH has 4 wired Powelink paired connections and I believe 4 WISA paired connections. For a 7.1.4 system, you need 5 pairs of speaker, plus, possibly a subwoofer and the Theatre. This will mean some aspect of your setup will need both wire and wisa.

                                            8361D8B8-5CF1-4BAD-B97F-EE21ABB9B398

                                            3. If all 7.1.4 channels are presented to the HDMI input from the source and processed through the Atmos, but there are speaker groups missing, the BSTH will down-sample to the best output.

                                            4. I believe when external Beolabs are added, the side and up-firing BSTH drivers are disabled. Why that is I don’t know just yet but that is what I observe in my system.

I personally feel a traditional 5.1 (2 fronts, centre, 2 flank) loudspeaker set is enough sound output without occupying too much real estate and clutter in the room that a further 3 sets would entail.
