The Mac is running Itunes 10.6 with BM-Link […]. I also installed the itunes remote app on my iphone 13 and that worked too for controlling iTunes! I was not expecting that.

Thats interesting because last time I tried, home sharing support was not supported anymore in Snow Leopard for security reasons. That was then the missing experiment in may research on BL3500, Mac-mini and iTunes integration. So could you please elaborate on your setup, settings and software version. Side note: funny how people dig out more and more old hardware to play with it !

      Hi Matador,

Mac mini is a 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB

      The O/S is v 10.6.8

      ITunes is v 10.6.3

      BMLink v 1.50.3

      PC2 firmware v1.31

I wasn’t able to sign in to Apple when enabling home share and had to cancel that. However in getting that far must have enabled something as I was then able to see the mac mini in the iphone remote app and selecting it then asked for a pairing code. Itunes on the mac then showed my iphone in the left folder structure, I clicked it and it showed me the code to enter. This then completed the pairing.

Ive set the mac to auto-login at boot, just need to figure out a way to load itunes at login next.

Annoyingly though the mac is forgetting the time after being powered off, so I get a warning popup while booting in saying the time is before 2008 and will cause errors. Once it’s connected to the network it then gets the time from the net. There must be a battery inside thats dead.

        Interesting thread!

I have my BL3500 connected to a 1611 converter running as the audio master together with a BLGW. I made a din to RJ45 cable to connect the 1611 to a Core and wrote a couple of macros for the BLGW to turn the BL3500 on and set to N.MUSIC when the core starts playing and switch it off after 30 seconds of no playback. Volume’s set to start at 60 on the 3500 and I use an essence wheel paired to the core for control + the B&O app. It all works really well, however it would be good if I could take the BLGW out of the equation and have the 3500 trigger on/off by itself. I did consider the Almando masterplay box but the cost was too much… 300 EUR vs. £30 for the 1611!

The Almando requires the 3500 timer function to be On all the time for the 3500 to trigger on.. I wonder if this is just a voltage signal down the masterlink cable ?

Does the beosound 3000 support A.Option 6 (Audio slave)? If not then this could be the cause of the system becoming unresponsive from having two audio masters on the ML side.

@ebnrobnumber key presses not being relayed to joined speakers or masterlink’ Could you please explain what that means – an example would be helpfull. MM

Hi MM, this was the problem I had which is now fixed in the newest firmware v2.1.51691:

I’ve discovered that I cannot use the number pad in a link room after joining. For example, if TuneIn is playing on my M5 and I join my A9 mk4 to it, I can’t select presets using the number pad on the BR1 (BT) in the link room. This also means I can’t select the CD playing, or directly change FM radio station on my BS9000 via the NL/ML converter. I’m not sure if it’s an issue with the BR1 that’s also received a Firmware update, or the speakers.

so also the Essence Mk2 does not support the requirements from Google?

              Hi Hawk,

Yes the reply from B&O was in relation to my M5, however they both share the same hardware platform.

The line-in on the essence should auto detect the signal from whatever’s connected, switch the speakers on and change the source to line-in, in the same way the M5 does.

After some friendly e-mail exchange I received this answer: “We are pleased to inform you that yes it will be fixed in a future software update regarding the issue; the issue has been reported to the Product Development team, and they will provide a software update as soon as possible.”

B&O have pushed an update to my Cores and M5 that addresses this issue with number key presses not being relayed to joined speakers or masterlink. The software version is 2.1.51691. No update to the a9 Mk4 yet.

but apparantly not (yet) for the Essence MKII

B&O have told me they can’t update Chromecast in the M5 and Essence Mk2. This is what they said to me:

“Our technical department would like to inform you that the hardware of Beoplay M5 does not support the requirements from Google and this is not a Bang & Olufsen’s decision, but part of new requirements from Google.”

Their suggestion was to buy a Chromecast audio dongle and connect it to line in. I’ve just bought a Wiim Pro streamer which has a built in Alexa receiver as well as chromecast which I’ve connected to my M5’s line-in. Works well.

Here’s a compatibility table that Keith has produced in the past:

Thanks Guy, that is super helpful. It would appear the Beoline is a Mk2, and the lack of an X in the table explains why it’s not working properly with the mk1 beocom2s!

So it looks like I will be going back to the original PSTN base station!

                    Cheers,

I today had a response from B&O about the BBC radio stream: We regret to inform that when BBC changes their streaming codecs, the Beoplayer will no longer be able to support it. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

isn’t the decoding handled by windows media player though?

I am using cheap $80 Wiim streamers

I have a few Wiim minis – they’re great little streamers.

Hi alls and apologies to the OP for interrupting. Could those Wiim mini stream from their aux in to usual airplay device like Airport express boxes? From the user guide I understand they can from Wiim to Wiim but I wonder if an usual Airplay network can catch the stream also. Thank you.

No thats not possible I’m afraid, but as you say it can distribute line in to other wiim streamers.

Now that I have Beoport/Beoplayer working I have been listening to BBC radio occasionally. The stream is interrupted every now and then with a message to say that the service will end mid 2023. I think that this may be related to end of BBC support for ‘Shoutcast’ as explained here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/help/questions/recent-changes-to-bbc-sounds/shoutcast-closure I think from the old forum that the BBC did something similar with TuneIn. It would appear that they are trying to force users onto their ‘Sounds’ app and/or BBC’s Radioplayer on PCs.

                          Hi Guy,

I noticed these interruptions listening to bbc on TuneIn on my M5 last month, so being concerned I emailed B&O support letting them know. They emailed back saying BBC were switching to HLS (HTTP live streaming developed by Apple) and that the B&O Radio devices will support this.

Maybe email b&o asking for the stream to be updated for the beoport – Im guessing windows media player can play these streams as it appears HLS is nothing new?

Here are the HLS stream links half way down the page if you want to try them in media player: https://garfnet.org.uk/cms/tables/radio-frequencies/internet-radio-player/

So, why did I unearth my old BeoPort? We are at a new house which is probably temporary for just a very few years and I don’t feel like running Master Link cables all over the place again, yet I wanted to use an old BL 2000 in the library. Steve from Sounds Heavenly advised me he doesn’t have any solutions for a BL 2000. I am using cheap $80 Wiim streamers as receivers for multiroom audio. In the library/BeoPort case, I Master Linked the BeoPort to the BL2000, ran the Wiim output as input to the BeoPort, hooked the USB to the Mac, got the BeoPort to transmit PC audio to the BL, and took away the Mac. Until someone mistakenly turns off the BL2000 or commands some other source, or the electric supply goes down, the BL2000 is happy to play any audio the Wiim sends to it. But I wonder if the BeoPort could be persuaded to play “headless” without the Mac across power-downs. I already figured out that connecting a USB charger to the BP’s USB port doesn’t work.

You could always use a 1611 beolink converter with the BL2000. It will act as a stand alone ML audio master and has an Aux in which the wiim mini can connect to. They’re pretty cheap on ebay.

I have a few Wiim minis – they’re great little streamers.

                              Hello Phil,

Did you upgrade the core to the latest firmware? There’s a bug in this new firmware for all the NL devices that’s broken that functionality for controlling the lead source. In my case I can no longer change radio station or CD using the number pad in a link room. I reported this to B&O support and they replied saying they are aware of the issue.

                              Rob.

My kitchen M5 now works too, but weirdly starting B&O radio changes the input on my beovision 11 in the living room!!!! it was on Xbox, starting the radio in the kitchen changed it to the TV source! Nothing joined, the M5 played the radio. Very bizarre.

Today my beoplay A9 has B&O radio working!!

The radio stations migrated are repeated 3 times for some reason. No way to re-order as others have noted.

The BR1 now has B&O radio as a source and lists the stations. It is still limited to displaying 20 on the remote though which is a shame.

TuneIn is no longer working after this migration and is no longer a source on the BR1. The BLGW beoliving app cannot start TuneIn either, even though it sees TuneIn as a source still.

The Beoliving app doesn’t show a list of b&o radio stations to choose from like it did with TuneIn. The only option to change station is by using the on-screen number keypad to access presets 🙁

I too have completed the migration on all my ASE speakers, rebooted them but none of them support it yet. They are all on the newer firmwares. The A9 mk4 for example is on v2.1.50871.

My BLGW sees the new B&O Radio source on these devices, but choosing in the Beoliving app also does nothing.

I wonder whether the roll out is by country and the UK hasn’t yet been enabled.

I completed this migration process yesterday but I’m unable to play any of the stations on my Core (newest firmware), I get a message saying ‘action not supported on device’ or similar. Is the new beo radio working for others?

Switching radio stations on the Core through Beo4 and MasterLinked products (using a BLC) did not work a couple of times now. After changing the radio station in the app however, it does work as normal. I will see if this persists and if I can replicate and influence and let you know. I did restart the Core and deleted and rejoined both the Core and the BLC to no avail.

I found out that after a full system switch-off (in the app, or with a long press on the Beo4) the issue arises: when I then choose RADIO on the Beo4, the last chosen radio station plays, but I cannot use the Beo4 to choose another station. Only after I change radio station in the app once, I can use the Beo4 again for changing stations (I use TuneIn btw). I will see if I can report this to the software team. Is anyone else seeing this too?

I’ve discovered that I cannot use the number pad in a link room after joining. For example, if I join TuneIn that’s playing on my M5 and join my A9 mk4 to it, I can’t select presets using the number pad on the BR1 (BT) in the link room. This also means I can’t select the CD playing, or directly change FM radio station on my BS9000 via the NL/ML converter. I’m not sure if it’s an issue with the BR1 that’s also received a Firmware update, or the speakers.

Hello everyone, I would like to connect multiple inputs to my Beosound Core (e.g.: an Apple Airport Express having a 3.5 jack and the TV having a mini-optical). The input on the Beosound Core is only one but I was wondering whether there are adapters or other methods I can use to get this issue resolved. Thank you very much for your help!

I have wanted an adapter like this for the core too. The optical is a separate input to the analogue line in but they unfortunately share the same 3.5mm jack. I don’t think such an adapter exists though.
