I’ve had the EXACT same experience with the Receiver 1. My dealer encountered it too on a different installation. I’ve messaged Beocare and they’ve advised that they’re working on fixing this.

You should be resting, mister. Lots of Gatorade Zero to get you through Covid.

I just watched “Top Gun Maverick” with 9’s as rears. Absolutely amazing! The added bass of the 9’s in the rear is perfect. I had planned on added a BL2, but now with the 4 BL9s I don’t think it could improve upon the sound.

By second pair of Beolab 9s arrived yesterday. I can confirm that they sound GREAT as rear speakers with the Theatre. My setup is as follows:

            Center: Theatre

            Front L&R: BL9

            Surround L&R: BL1

            Rear L&R: BL9

Front Height L&R: Theatre up-firing speakers

            Rear Height L&R: BL4000

The BL9s as rears give a very balanced, enveloping, warm bass. The sound is much more natural than when I used BL6000s as rears. The BL6000s as rears sounded distracting and unnatural.

After yesterday’s Beosound Theatre firmware update, Home Control is now available! Home Control shows up on the Beoremote One LIST and gives us the Home Control screen on the TV. I really didn’t expect B&O to give us that feature. Nice. However, the LIGHT and CONTROL list commands still do not send commands to the BLI.

Yesterday, my dealer confirmed that there is indeed a problem adding WISA (at least via Receiver 1) speakers to the listening positions. He advised that B&O is aware of the issue and should have an update to fix it very soon. Could anyone using wireless speakers describe what happens when you add the speakers? Does the app crash after scanning for wireless speakers? For me, running a scan for wireless speakers crashes the app, but when I restart the app the wireless speakers are shown as added. However, I have no option to tell the Theatre what type of beolabs are connected to the Receiver 1. After running Room Sense, the wireless speakers are greyed out and cannot be added to the speaker group.

I believe I am reading it correctly, that if I want to add two wireless speakers, the only wireless standard supported is WISA, and am I correct that when I look at B&O’s product offering on their website, for a wireless rear surround option, the BeoLab 18’s are the least expensive option at $11k per speaker? Will any of the Beosound series work via power link in a wired application?

Yes any old Beosound speakers will work with the theatre through powerlink or you add the wireless transmitter (I wouldn’t use wireless unless you REALLY had to). I wouldn’t go with BL18’s as rears unless you have a ton of cash as it’s overkill for most rooms. You can get used BL3 or BL4000’s or even a used BL17 for rears and it should work just as well (again depends on how big the room is). I also moved from an ARC receiver to the Theatre and it’s very seamless to use and switch inputs. It’s all not as daunting as it sounds.

You’ll see in my recent posts that the Theatre isn’t working with the Receiver 1 right now. However, B&O is working on fixing this.

                  @Mr10Percent,

Thank you! I didn’t know that menu was there. That is very useful.

It does take some attention to settings of a device to get Dolby Atmos being sent. I just sat through the James Bond movie “No Time to Die” and though the sound was amazing. However, when I checked what the sound was on the B&O app, it showed 7.1 True HD PCM. I had the output on the Sony UHD player set correctly to “Auto.” However, I needed to turn the setting for “Secondary audio” to “off.” This wasn’t really very intuitive. After doing so, I got “Dolby Atmos” shown on the B&O app. I went back and re-watched a few scenes and was blown away by the difference.

BTW, the Theatre really shows the difference between compressed and uncompressed audio. On a lesser quality speaker, streaming might seem fine. However, with a UHD you get to realize the full potential of B&O speakers with the lossless sound.

Control with HDMI-CEC works well enough. However, once you add the PUC control, the HDMI input gets renamed to “Apple TV” on the Beoremote One and you get a list of functions for the controlled device under “List” on the Beoremote One. There’s not much in the list for the Apple TV, but for a device like a Sony UHD player, this List menu comes in really useful.

Good news. I’ve found that the Halo can now fully control the Theatre. The (color) video interface is present. Touching the middle dot lets you pause/play the video. Swiping up twice provides the My Button presets. Swiping up again lets you select the listening position presets. You can select between TV and Music sources when you swipe down. All of the TV sources that you make available for the Beoremote One are available. The volume control on the wheel works. I’m able to control the lights and everything else I programed for the Halo via the BLI. However, I suspect those are being triggered by the Beosystem 4 which is still connected to power.

Lotta stuff I can’t help with here. However, on the Netflix, or any entertainment app, once loaded from LG, they will appear on the configuration setting for the BSTH and for the remote. I have lodged feedback with B&O. The sound modes can’t be edited. Im also looking at installing Apple TV but was under the impression it could be done via the LG app alone and not require a separate box? Can you confirm this or is that just TV control and a box is still needed?

I see that all of the sources are on the ios app, but only a few on on the Beoremote One. Maybe it just takes take for them to be recognized and loaded.

It seems that one of the updates in the last few days made it so that we can now edit the Listening Positions. However, the speakers connected with Receiver 1 units get greyed out and can’t be added. Has anyone else here seen this when using a Receiver 1 for WISA?

The term “Apple TV” can be confusing. It’s used for both the Apple TV Channel app and also for the physical box. The Apple TV Channel app is indeed directly available on the LG. It has all of the Apple original programming and access to movies and shows purchased on iTunes. The Apple TV box has all of the apps such as Netflix, HBO Max, etc. Really, though, most of the main streaming apps are also directly on the LG. The new Star Trek shows on Parmount Plus are now 4K and gorgeous. So is “Yellowstone” on Peacock.

I did get HBO Max to work again on the Apple TV. Maybe it just needed time to handshake for the HDCP. I’m now watching the season finale of “House of the Dragon.” The sound is really amazing. Very detailed and rich.

Well, my Theatre was delivered at 1:30 A.M. At any rate, it’s finally here. I found the following to share:

-The HDMI-CEC is actually pretty good. It’s controlling everything that I need on the Apple TV and Sony UHD player without the need for a PUC cable.

-There is no way to indicate for it to route LIGHT/CONTROL commands to the BLI. All of the items I’m used to seeing in the LIGHT and CONTROL lists are present (probably from previously paired BT B&O devices), but pressing the items in those lists does nothing.

-Netflix is oddly missing from the TV list on the Beoremote One.

-However, the Netflix and Amazon buttons on a Beoremote One that has those physical buttons go to Netflix and Amazon on the LG smart tv apps.

-The Theatre discovered my wireless speakers connected via Receiver 1 units. However, the Theatre doesn’t let me tell it which type of speaker (e.g. BL 6000) is connected.

-The room sense will play the tone on the wireless speakers connected via Receiver 1 units. However, when the room sense finishes, it doesn’t add those speakers or let you add them after the room sense. They are greyed out. I’ve never updated the firmware on my Receiver 1 units since they simply worked with my Transmitter 1 when used with my Beosystem 4. Perhaps I need to do the firmware update?

-The speaker roles are noticeably limited when compared with what’s available on the Beosystem 4. For example, I was going to add more speakers for the Wide roles, but Wide is not an option for external speakers. Also, there is no role for middle hight speakers — only front and back height. The Dolby Atmos setup diagrams provide for the additional “left and right surround 1” roles — a back counterpart to the front “wide” roles. However, those roles are not options.

-Lastly, I get that dreaded error message that won’t let me play HBO Max content on the Apple TV 4K. This seems to be an HDCP issue on some devices. When I had the Apple TV 4K directly connected to the LG C1, I didn’t have this issue. I might have to connect the Apple TV 4K to the LG again instead of to the Theatre.

I just received notice tonight that my Theatre is arriving after an 8-hour drive and that it will be arriving between 12:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.tonight, AND that I must be available to help the driver lift it from the truck. I’m just speechless. Is Bang & Olufsen still a luxury brand?

I will say that I haven’t been very pleased with my experience in getting the Theatre. I faced a very pushy sale and then very little follow-up about the delivery. When I had my loft furnished and decorated by Armani Casa, the man that I worked with at Armani told me that in the world of high end retail making the sale is only half of the job. The other half is seeing that the products arrive safely in the customer’s home. My dealer has been using very basic FedEx for delivery with no way to arrange for a delivery time and will not give me the option to upgrade to a better crater/freighter service. This has been very frustrating trying to manage my work schedule to be able to be home for a delivery on short notice when there has been such little communication.

I’ve been told I can expect my Theatre this week. The grill arrived yesterday. At least I can look at it and pretend that I have a Theatre. LOL. My dealer has made me a great offer for a pair of 9s to use as rears to complement the 9s I have as fronts. However, in measuring the 9s, I worried that they might be blocked by the sofa.

So now that I’ve added the LG WebOS TV as a system in my BLI, programmed a few macros, and renamed a few CONTROL functions, when I press CONTROL on my Beoremote One I now have the following CONTROL list:

                                      TV Power

                                      HDMI 1

                                      HDMI 2

                                      HDMI 3

                                      HDMI 4

It might seem like a small thing, but it’s nice to have a single remote solution again until my Theatre finally arrives!

My new LG C2 77″ TV arrived two weeks ago, and I’ve been using it with my Beosystem 4 while waiting for my Theatre to arrive. Using the LG remote to change HDMI inputs got pretty irritating. However, I discovered something amazing for those of us with a BLI. There is a system that can be added in the BLI to send controls to an LG WebOS TV!

I simply created a macro so that I can use the Beoremote One to send a CONTROL command to the BLI, which then changes the LG input to whatever input you select in the macro. For example, I renamed a CONTROL command “HDMI 4” and it will change the LG to the HDMI 4 input. You can even select other sources on the smart tv such as “Netflix” to be triggered by a CONTROL command, a color button, etc.

After the updates, I’ve found the following:

                                          1. My Beoplay A6 can again pair with a remote. It had lost that ability to pair for many months.
                                          2. A BLI macro firing a standby command on the Beosound 35 is acting really weird. Firing the macro puts the speaker into standby for just a moment and then automatically re-joins a playing source.
                                          3. The update caused the customized My Buttons on the Beoremote One to be lost and they need to be programmed again.
                                          4. The update caused some of the LIGHT commands on the Beoremote One to become hidden.

I’m curious about how the placement of speakers with substantial bass — such as the Beolab 9s — work with the new bass management system of the Theatre. This really pulls a lot of Geoff Martin’s articles together. I once had two BL2 subwoofers — one in front and one in the rear. This made quite a big difference. You couldn’t really notice WHERE the bass was coming from, but you could sense more balance…and perhaps FEEL it. Literally. However, my neighbors weren’t quite fond of my using two BL2 subwoofers so I removed one of them. Yet, there are times that I’m tempted to plug that second bad boy back in, put in the Top Gun UHD, and take The.Highway.To.The. Danger Zone!
