I don’t think you’re quite understanding We need to indicated in the B&O app (or via a direct web browser interface such as for the NL/ML Converter) which device is the home automation hub that we’re directing any B&O device to forward LIGHT/CONTROL commands to. Otherwise, the B&O device does not know where to forward the LIGHT/CONTROL commands to. For example, we could have multiple BLI or BLGW units on a particular network. Therefore, the B&O device needs to know which hub to use. This is done through the B&O app or web interface for each and every device. It’s not done through Khimo’s app.
I still haven’t received the update on this side of the pond. The two big issues I’m hoping it might fix are (1)allowing us to use speakers connected via Wisa with Beoreceiver 1 and (2) fixing the issue of the Theatre not powering on the LG TV. I’ve been finding that I keep seeing the message in the app to integrate the LG TV even after I have done that.
Geoff’s explanation makes sense about how Dolby Atmos could be a reason for a change needed in the volume level. I had never been able to use Dolby Atmos with B&O before the Theatre. I just do REALLY hope that the True Image upmixing will be fixed to allow MORE Beolabs beyond the 7.1.4. The whole point of True Image upmixing seemed to be allowing more B&O speakers to fill out the soundstage. Yet, now we’ve actually LOST speaker roles that were previously allowed in the Beosystem 4.
Also, an explanation for why we can’t use the side front-firing speakers of the Theatre to add to the center channel role would be really welcome. Is it because the sound signals would interfere with the middle speaker?? It would just be nice to have an explanation so that we don’t see this as just an oversight or flaw in the software programming.
If the Theatre at least had support to forward LIGHT/CONTROL signals to the BLI I could program a macro to let me turn on the LG TV. I paid $3000 more for an LG C2 for the very purpose of having a seamless integration with the TV!
Also, I’ve found that not only does the Theatre not show up in the Moment to use its speakers, but also I can’t even JOIN what’s playing on the Moment with the Theatre.
There is a file on the USB thumbdrive that logs the activity. You can see if the speaker was skipped or updated and what the firmware of the speaker/receiver is. I saw a different behavior for Receiver 1 units that were being updated compared to ones that already had the recent firmware. I found it to be good practice to have just one speaker/receiver plugged into power at a time for the firmware update cycle so that I could see what was happening for that specific Receiver 1.
I don’t believe that the BLI integration issue is the fault of Khimo. In the B&O app there should be an option to select the BLI from a list of B&O devices on the network. That is not present.
Khimo has otherwise fully integrated the Theatre in the BLI. I have even been able to play albums through the Theatre using the secret hidden system in BLI that starts playing a vinyl record album as soon as I place it on a stand. However, this involves the daunting task of editing about 300 macros that I’ve created for my entire vinyl record album collection.
I’ve been able to make a solution to turning on the LG TV in the meantime until B&O/LG fix this. I created a macro in the BLI using the LG system to power on the TV. I then placed this as a button on the Halo.
I think the volume thing is not a hill of beans, just a muscle memory thing where the eyes tell you one thing but the ears say more. Once you get used to to 50-ish, it becomes second nature.
It’s nice to have consistency across B&O devices. B&O seems to think the volume level is the same, but it clearly is not. There are still a lot of bugs to work out in the Theatre. After investing as an early adopter in the most expensive soundbar on the market, I do want B&O to listen and improve.
I’ll chime in that I definitely must raise the audio level to be what I had used for listening to the same source on my Beosystem 4, Beosystem 3, and Beovision 10.
@Geoff,
Please do listen to what your real-world users are reporting. Also:
- We are unable to use ALL front-firing speakers of the Theatre for the Center role.
- Without allowing us to assign other Dolby speaker roles such as “Wide” we cannot take advantage of the TrueImage upmixing for speakers beyond 7.1.4. Why not just allow this as you did with the Beosystem 4?? This seems like a diminishment of the TrueImage concept.
How do I enable B and O mode? App shows connected and I do not see an option to specifically enable it.
If you’re not seeing the message in the app prompting you to enable B&O mode, you most likely already enabled it during the initial setup. Unfortunately, this did not resolve the problem for me. After having the LG TV and Theatre in standby for an hour, starting the video source on the Beoremote One did not turn on the TV. I had to manually turn the TV on using the button under the screen. I’ve replaced both cables connecting the LG to the TV with better quality cables and this problem is still present. All other control of the LG TV using the Beoremote One works fine.
I possibly found what was causing the issue of the TV not turning on. In the B&O app, after scrolling down, I saw a message asking me if I wanted to enable B&O mode on the LG TV. I KNOW that I had already done this. However, perhaps the update to version 2.3.4 reset this setting to prompt me to do it again.
Yes. I have the Quick Start enabled. I remember there was another setting that I disabled in order to turn off the art gallery screen saver. Otherwise, Standby would not actually turn off the screen and it would just show the art gallery.
I replaced my cables, too. Those cables that came with the Theatre are unreasonably short. I found that I had to place the Theatre on a piano bench next to the wall in order to manage the cabling while getting it mounted on the wall.
A problem that I’ve recently been encountering is that if the TV and Theatre off for a long time that the Theatre does not turn on the LG TV. However, if they’ve recently been on, the TV turns on with no problem. I have the power saving on the TV off so that the B&O app can work. Has anyone else encounter this issue?
With that combination of speakers, you might try placing the 19 behind your listening position. I really like having a nice balance of bass surrounding me — such as what I have with 2 BL9s as fronts, 2 BL9s as rears, and just using the BL1s as sides. The BL1s are so lacking in bass and have such a shrill sound that I think they might sound annoying as rears. I also think the great height of the BL1s might bother you when using them as rears so close to your ears.
3 December 2022 at 03:06 in reply to: Cabling to use 2 daisy-chained speakers with 2 Receiver 1 units #41254Thanks, Steve. I need wisa because I don’t have enough wired PL sockets for a 7.1.4 speaker configuration. I will test whether speakers recognize the signal being sent as L or R channel by toggling the L/R switch on some other speakers when I get an opportunity. Thanks again for your input.
There is a bug in the software that’s preventing the wisa Receiver One from working with the Theatre. B&O is aware of the issue and have advised that they are working on fixing it.
However, the LIGHT and CONTROL list commands still do not send commands to the BLI.
Have you found a solution for the problem above, @beojeff ? Philippe
“Beo(doesn’t)care” has responded that a solution won’t be available until sometime in 2023.
Geoff:
With regard to True Image upmixing, I’ve noticed that the available roles that can be assigned to speakers has been greatly reduced from what was available with e.g. the Beosystem 4. For example, the app gives no option to assigning Wide Left, Wide Right, Center Height Left, or Center Height Right roles to speakers. Is this just a temporary oversight in the design of the app for the Theatre, or is it no longer possible to upmix with that many speakers with True Image?
The Beolab 2 receives both of the two channels in a PL cable. B&O once made a special Y-cable so that each of two subwoofers would be able to isolate and receive just one of the channels. However, that part has been discontinued. If you use the BL2 with a Receiver 1 for wireless, you’re able to get just one channel to that subwoofer.
Geoff,
Are you aware that the app does not allow us to assign all 3 of the Theatre’s front-firing speakers to the Front Center role if we have external speakers assigned as Front Left & Right?
It would REALLY be nice just to be able to use the extra speaker roles we had in the Beosystem 4 to be able to upmix with True Image. I was hoping to add more speakers to take advantage of the True Image upmixing.
I saw a new update for the B&O app this morning and downloaded it. However, the app still crashes when searching for and adding Receiver 1 speakers. It would seem logical that after detecting the Receiver 1 that it would then prompt us to assign the type of speaker. However, the app just crashes and only shows those speakers detected as Receiver 1.
Could we please see a return of the availability of at least the Wide roles? The Wide role is possible for the Theatre’s internal speakers but not for external speakers. In anticipation of the Theatre, I had placed external speakers for the Wide positions (between the Front speaker and side Surround speakers) and purchased Receiver 1 units to be able to add them.
It would not be favorable to have those speakers assigned as a second pair of side Surround speakers. Would it?
