Hello, Need some advice and option to upgrade my exiting system.
I have my Samsung television transmitting sounds to a pair of beloab 6000 and a single beolab 2, via a beoplay S8 connection hub. Also my beosound 4 is transmitting to the same speakers via the connection hub. Finally my google chromecast is connected to the aforementioned connection hub.
I am looking to upgrade my system to achieve a more theatrical and powerful sound when watching movies, without moving to a 5.1 system. I think I am happy with the beosound 4 and my Samsung TV unless there are significant benefits to changing.
beolab 2
16 August 2022 at 07:51 #37031The obvious inexpensive change is Beolab 6000s –> Beolab 8000s. When they came out, non-B&O-fans pointed to the BL6000s as the perfect example of foolish form over function, and how physics was king and their own big boxes simply sounded superior (and louder, which is part of what you’re asking for). I hear-ya’ that a 2.1 system is plenty — especially if “you only have 1 chair and no friends.” (I.e. fixed, centered, listening position means no Center channel needed.) But: Listen to the early-ish YouTube Beo Talk podcasts by @Mikipedia, for his take on how much difference surround speakers made.

And I am not even sure that would bring ‘the significant more’, that you seem to wish for.
Only going from two channel to three – or rather to 5/5.1 channels – will boost your sound into a “more theatrical and powerfull” experience.
However, that would require some radical changes to the setup. The current setup seems to be a decent solution……..if you can live without a center channel.
What is it that you are missing now?

I was curious to know if I change my beolab 6000’s to Beolab 9 or beolab5 or beolab 18. Would I expect a more efficient and unified sound. Would I still need a beolab2.
I use these speakers on daily basis mostly with my television. the room size they cover is about 30m2.
I enjoy a theatrical sound that is base heavy with clear speech. I am happy to for-go a 5 channel setup.
17 August 2022 at 11:56 #37034You’d probably want a sub with the BL18s. That combination will be an improvement.
You won’t need one with the BL9’s, and definitely no need with BL5s. Both of these will be an improvement.
But MM is right, 6000s to 8000s will be a small incremental change only.
BL9s used / approved seems to be around 2500k, quite a bit less than the BL18s, where used pairs are quiet bit more.
25 August 2022 at 07:26 #37036I recommend getting bigger speakers for the front like BL 5 or BL 9 and keep the BL 6000s for rear speakers in a 5.1 setup. Hearing the details in the rear channel in a movie makes a big difference.
