I bought as recommended across the Internet and YouTube the Blu-Ray ‘Spatial Audio Calibration ToolKit’ by Techno Dad & Joe N Tell which outputs test tones in Dolby Atmos TrueHD in all options from 2.0 up to 9.1.6

I was pleased to confirm the speakers I assigned in specific roles in either TrueImage or Direct only played when they should, plus the speaker volume levels were fairly accurate, which gives validity to the mic setup of the Listening Position.

Only output I was not expecting in Direct sound mode was when I moved from 7.1.4 which is where my home system stops and where the Theatres internal sound processing / decoder caps out was when I played the test tones for 9.1.6. I was expecting not to hear any sound for Left & Right Wide and Left & Right Middle Height but the Wide sound were sent to the Surround channels and the Middle Height sound sent to the Rear Height, so down mixed to 7.1.4. I thought this would only happen in TrueImage not Direct.

My opinion on the calibration disc is it has given me peace of mind my systems is in peak condition and even more admiration for the B&O engineers that whatever my Listening Position where I have a position set to 5.0.2 and another 7.1.4 and a third where in 7.1.4 the LF, CF, & RF are all assigned to Centre each with the Theatre angled differently off the wall to match different sofas in the room (I have the Wall Bracket with a LG G3 65”) the correct test tone was played and the levels calibrated by the B&O mic were on the whole very accurate.

Only shame was the disc was £115 and I will not have much use to use in the future so may consider selling on or donating to a B&O store to help their installers.

Even after 9 months living with the Theatre it still impresses me, at its versatility and accuracy.

        Good to hear.

As Geoff recently reminded us, with Atmos tracks, if there are fewer speakers attached / assigned than the signal contains, the Theatre does not throw away the data relating to the unassigned roles, but folds that data back in and uses the existing speakers/roles – a bit of down mixing if you will.
