I thought the same thing when I first noticed the part. It seemed like an awkward design to me.

However, both of my BM8000’s have this part in that location. I bought one of the BM8000’s used, so I can’t make any judgements about the originality. The other I purchased new and the only placed that serviced it was an authorized B&O dealer. It is possible that two different people did the same hack independently, but the odds are slim. Maybe it was a something from a B&O Service Bulletin?

Here is a picture of the button board from the other BM8000

        That’s a homemade solution.
The spring plate is not supposed to sit under the keyboard like that.

The spring for the Release Rail on the Beomaster 8000 seems to be one of those parts that goes missing. I stumbled upon a source for a replacement spring by accident the other day. The cool thing is that the source is close to home wherever you live.

There is a spring similar to the release rail spring holding on the button board.

This spring could be replaced with a washer if you need to repurpose it.

For reference, here is a picture of a original release rail spring along side a button board spring.

I don’t know how many times I’ve looked at the back of the button board and not noticed the spring.

          Hope this helps someone,
