That would explain it.
17 December 2022 at 06:03 #3781617 December 2022 at 06:06 #37817I can edit speaker roles on included speakers, but the Receiver 1 speakers get greyed out after room sense and I cannot select them to do anything with them.
Also, when editing roles, I only get one role for a subwoofer: rear(or possibly back) center. I see that you get THREE possible roles for subwoofers in the back of the room. This is odd.
17 December 2022 at 06:16 #3781817 December 2022 at 06:17 #37819Notice how I only get one dark square in the back of the room as an option for subwoofer placement whereas you get three dark squares.
17 December 2022 at 10:39 #37820This is good stuff. interesting.
One thing I am considering is to add a speaker set to go from 5.2.1 (the x.2.x only means the BL90 subs 🙂 ) to a 5.2.2 and then a 5.2.4 system
I am looking at the offerings from B&O for satellite speakers to mount on a high mezzanine platform or on part of a vaulted (sloping) ceiling. EoL BL3 or BL17 are probably too big (bulky). There is also a possibility of (even though they are more bulky but slimline) to use cosmetically re-engineered some old BL7.1’s which are cheap as right now?
Apart from these old speakers, there is only a BS Shape. This may not be a bad thing;
Relatively slim-line, A single pair of speakers and an Amp is probably less than £2k (B&O’s most cost-effective solution right now?) if you can exclude the Core and with a fabric cover, can be matched to disappear.
So obviously, Receiver 1 may work better in future, but does anyone have experience of the BS Shape with Theatre or if they are re-utilising a Core in a Theatre speaker setup?
17 December 2022 at 10:59 #37821Extremely happy with my new Theatre. A upgrade from my previous Beoplay S8s. Paired with a Sony 55” A90J panel instead of the recommended LG G2 and the remote works!
Anyone have pictures of the new wood covers coming out? I heard from my dealer that a Walnut and Smoked Oak version is coming out. Pricey but tempted by the walnut. £1,250 for just the cover!
17 December 2022 at 10:59 #37822I would be interested in knowing if the Shape can be used as a rear option with the theatre. My question is connectivity, can it be used wireless (I assume via the Core)

Currently the Beosound Theatre can only connect to other speakers via Powerlink (wired or wireless). So you cannot use other speakers connected to a Beosound Core, as this would use the Network Link protocol.
You could probably if you used a Wireless Receiver instead of the Core.
There’s some talk that you’ll be able to connect some Mozart speakers as rear speakers, but Core isn’t Mozart.

19 December 2022 at 01:35 #37833Dish Hoper?
19 December 2022 at 01:47 #37834Typo……Dish Hopper.
19 December 2022 at 01:47 #37835As per the addiction thread – I’ve just installed a Kaleidascape Server so I can get some really high quality video and some mind-blowing sound effects. Truly impressive.
Ive had a number of issues with the Theatre – not just installing the Stratos but also with the Oppo BRP. There is a bug in the BeoApp, BR1, Theatre firmware. It has caused a number of forced factory resets if you do it the “wrong” way.
Im using 3.5mm input jacks connected to the IR-in of each device, PUC A+B Lan to the Theatre.
- When changing the PUC register, the system is sensitive to changes and can lock-up. Names in the BR1 dont get updated.
- Adding the same PUC control to HDMI A and HDMI B locks up. (problem if you have to solve which is A and which is B. (RJ45 Pin 5/6 is A, Pin 7/8 for B)
- Did not realise that the PUC register is extensive in the BeoApp but you cannot scroll. You have to search. Maybe what you want is in the list (DishTV S7090 PVR and Dish Generic DVR are there).
- When applying your PUC configuration, I have found to save lock up of Theatre, BeoApp and BR1, select another source on the BR1, Live TV, then make the PUC change.
- A reboot may be required to initiate the new config.
Will add – the Oppo works great – the Kaleidescape is still not responding but working through that one now.
19 December 2022 at 02:23 #37836To wire or not to wire….that is the question ?
19 December 2022 at 02:33 #37837For me, wired as much as possible.
Interesting in the Theatre and SMI design. There is no room in the theatre for cables – particularly at the base or on the top exit…and there is so much unused room inside the SMI.
19 December 2022 at 04:09 #37838I have also gone for a BeoSound Theatre. I returned the Canton Smart Connect which was absolutely rubbish and a customer support that went into hiding. The shop I bought it from was nice about it all and reported they had now had more complaints as more and more have eARC televisions.
I had a concern that the BeoSound Theatre can only be setup with a smart phone and if B&O was not to continue update the app. However I assume if I keep an old phone with the app installed that should in theory continue to work.
19 December 2022 at 04:17 #37839yikes! wired all the way, but that is fairly cramped!
Did you do it yourself?
19 December 2022 at 05:50 #37840New Theatre owner here. I have a couple of questions regarding my setup.
Right now I only have the Theatre with 2x6000s as Surround Left and Right. Room Sense automatically disabled the left and right firing speakers of the Theatre. Is that the best option or should I turn these on again as an addition to the 6000s?
The 6000s when setup as surround are really quiet most of the time. I assume that is normal for surround speakers.
If I added Beolab 18 as Front Left and Right, the Theatre would disable its corresponding channels. I could then reassign them both to Center. Does that make sense or will it make things worse?
19 December 2022 at 07:04 #37841Very good questions and I have wondered about many of them also. The only one I can give any input on are the 6000s. When I initially set up my Theatre (with BL28s as fronts) I tried 6000s as rears. I also did not hear much from them. I then replaced the 6000 with my pair of Beolab 1s. Huge difference. I now hear sound from them almost constantly. I was surprised how much difference the larger speaker made.
19 December 2022 at 07:14 #37842Interesting because when I select the 6000s as Front/Left instead will play much louder and just fine. But once in Surround Left/Right position, I can hardly hear them. I could manually raise the DB on these but I thought Room Sense is supposed to that all for me. Just difficult for me to decide whether Surrounds are supposed to be rather quiet or if there is a bug with the Theatre and 6000s.
