Whilst you can connect the 5’s to the core, you can not connect the BS9000 to the Core as in the drawing – the Powerlink port there is for sound out…..not for in!
Just connect the 5’s to the BS9000 (with optional digital connection).
The Core can then be connected to the 9000.

Seems ok when you plan to use a BS Core (requiring even three signal cable conducts for the BeoLab 5s)

I’d tend to agree with your response MM actually – whole home installations can sound simple but there are a lot of nuances often, and its hard to really help without knowing everything.

For example, for the main room scenario and stated priority of playing NAS music and BS9000 CDs on the BL5s, it doesn’t seem straightforward given the connection options / limitations of the BL5s. As MM I think previously stated, the 5s dont have auto sense to power on, as the 50s/90s etc do.

Also given the 16tb i.e very large NAS library, one would need to think very carefully about which streaming front end / app / UI can handle well such a large library. On the one hand we know Roon can, on the other we know the B&O app would be completely wrong for such a large library. Outside of these two opposing cases, it’s easy to find positive reviews of lots of decent steamers, but how good are each at handling very large NAS libraries?

Anyway, only to underline that there are lots of nuances beyond cabling. By and large MM is right, and I think I posted this earlier – the rooms (5s in one room, 9s in the other) can be treated separately and simply. If you add the same streaming solution / box in each room, multi-room will be taken care of by the streaming app/architecture. Complex inter-room networking doesn’t seem necessary.

All one needs to do is to find a way to make each separate room “work” in a way that the OP wants – or at least as best as possible. A simple Sonos like experience (i.e open app, press play and do volume control) through older B&O speakers may actually not be possible though.

I’m a fan of the terminated wall plates like Tignum suggested. They are also available for various styles of coax (RCA, RG6, etc.), banana plugs, and many others. If you go the CATx route, you will find that terminating the cables is the easiest part of the project. The crimp (and punchdown) tools are cheap and easy to use.

You may have to create your own design diagram to get things rolling. As you may have noticed from other people’s posts, there is no standard way of making one. Any drawing method (software or by hand) will work. When creating a design diagram it would be helpful to include the model name, type number, and relevant software revisions for each piece of equipment. I would also add a diagram revision number from the start to make it easier to relate a particular configuration to the current conversation.

As you have undoubtedly already figured out, the technical knowledge of some of the members of this forum is on par with (or better than) the best of the dealers and installers. Their passion for the subject matter is unsurpassed. A good strategy is to make it as easy as possible for people to help you.

Consider setting up a “bench mockup” if your system starts getting complex. The general idea behind this is you can hook up all of the equipment (in London) and test the connectivity, functionality and interactions before committing to your final layout in your house (in Portugal). This would also give you something to play with while your house is being built ;-). Open utility shelves can be handy if you have a lot of equipment.

I will start the process of trying to create a sensible diagram with models (images) and then it will be easier to comment on. And I fully agree, the knowledge here is top shelf. I am an old Toyota Land Cruiser owner (40 years) and that forum is amazing for the help, comraderie and willingness to “keep old trucks going” (like my 1980 FJ40)…hah

I have no idea of software updates on say something like BS9000 or where I could figure that one out. And I wasn’t aware that BL3,5,9 had software that needed updating? I do recall having had our 2 old (now gone) BO tv’s getting firmware updates though.

Hi Johan

Thanks for your note. I don’t want to ‘paint’ all BO service techs with a bad brush, however my experience in Geneva and London left much to be desired and those fees! And I have been married to a Dane for more than 40 years!

I would feel much more confident in paying one of you to help create a template for ‘discussion’ that I could then take to BO Lisbon and say, can you do this or how would you do it differently. As signalled previously, BO London pushed for the Core approach which may be fine, but unnecessary (or to sell me more BO stuff).
