In one of my rooms I have a Sky Glass TV with an eARC audio output. Do you know if I can used this as an input on a HDMI port on a BeoSystem3 so I can utilise the BeoSystem3 to process the 5.1 audio and drive my existing speakers.
If not is there a recommended way to convert eARC to independent audio streams? I am aware of the almando solution but wonder if there is a less expensive solution.

Thanks
21 January 2023 at 10:31 #43147Hi mreilly2002, and welcome!
Connecting the Sky Glass TV’s eARC HDMI port with an HDMI port on the BeoSystem3 will not work. Search the archive forums and you will find threads like these: https://archivedforum2.beoworld.ouronlineserver.com/forums/p/23067/191023.aspx#191023 / https://archivedforum2.beoworld.ouronlineserver.com/forums/p/44743/324322.aspx#324322.
As I think there is no (optical) audio output on the TV, the option you have is to extract the audio signal from the eARC port and then feeding it into the BS3 either with a coax spdif or an HDMI lead, using something like this: https://marmitek.com/collections/hdmi-audio-extractor/products/connect-ae14-hdmi-audio-extractor-4k-arc or this https://www.reichelt.nl/nl/en/hdmi-earc-audio-adapter-extractor-4k-18-gb-s-pure-ptchdearc4k-p311687.html?CCOUNTRY=662&LANGUAGE=nl&GROUPID=5391&START=0&OFFSET=16&SID=93Xlul5qwQATUAAEhF17k8d54b7f16b05b0e810d1859a0f9e7465&LANGUAGE=EN&&r=1. There are many if you google a bit.
My advice is to be critical when selecting one: if I am not wrong the Marmitek wants you to press a button each time you use it? I would not want to do that!
I use a BeoSystem 3 for processing audio only using it’s spdif coax input and that works fine with me (5.1 max). I believe that when using one of its HDMI inputs you can play also 7.1.
Good luck, let us know your next steps.
Regards, Johan

Thank you for your detailed reply. I really appreciate your effort. Apologies for not noticing the prior articles in the archived forum.
Looks like eARC as an input will not work, so I will examine options for eARC to HDMI or switch to use of an independent preamp to drive my legacy speakers. Will let you know what option works.
Thanks
Mike
