Thank you for your comment. Do you think i can check the caps on the circuit? Do you think these are the caps on the laser cdm or on the cd circuit?
28 June 2022 at 09:28 #35806Hi there. My Century played only two cds after replacing the laser with a new one. Now it spins the disc for a second before the door opens. The test error code is 3 (radial error) Can someone explain what this error means and how can i fix it?
28 June 2022 at 11:49 #35807You just replaced the laser and nothing else?
The dead laser is a result of dead caps controlling the laser…
29 June 2022 at 01:25 #35809How much time can you spend on a cap around 10-20 Cents? 10 seconds? ESR & Leakage & Co?
That will not work. And then you have a checked cap that is still a risk or is really defect without notice.
Replace every cap on the board, 100%.
Everything else is a waste of time and money.
If you cannot do it in the requested qualitity… find an old retired radio/tv man with time. They can do it.
29 June 2022 at 06:27 #35810I wanted to check the caps first to be sure the problem is there but understand that they need to be disconnected from the board first? If the problem is 100% caps then indeed makes sense changing them all. Another problem I have is that the radio stopped scanning FM and it only scans MW and SW although the model is EU and only has FM tuner. Do you think this might be from the caps as well?
30 June 2022 at 08:29 #35811The radio is hardware coded depending to the area/country… usually the cpu should read the correct type of tuner board and configure the software.
Either there is a software bug… or the type cannot be read or the lithium cell is dead. This happens also when some caps in the power supply have problems.

Re: Radio issue. The caps of the power supply seem an easy option. Are these the main caps for the power of the unit? By lithium cell do you mean a battery? Is there a battery in rhw unit?
