I have a 65-inch Harmony (G1) with 4xBL18 and a BL19 from 2015. The whole package is sitting in my ex’s house and they will be moving soon to my new place. A few weeks ago I found a good deal for 2x BL9 and I went to pick them up after listening to them.

Now, judging from the specs, I wonder if I made the right choice. My plan is to use them as front speakers (obviously) and keep the BL18’s for side and surround in a 7.1 configuration. My question is related to the presence of the BL19. If I take the bass out of the equation (which will be redirected to the BL19, I assume), will I experience better sound than the 18’s as front? Or should I just sell the BL19 and use the integrated sub in the 9?

I know the right answer is “try and find out :)” but I wonder what more experienced users (you) think in terms of what I should expect. Should I be prepared for the BL19 to be redundant?

Also, it’s important to note that the previous living room was quite big (the 18 front L/R were 8 meters apart) and you could feel that the 18 were a little lacking in power for a 50 m2 living room, while in the new setting they will be 3.5 meters apart for a much smaller room (half I’d say).

      Usage is 80% Movies/TV and 20% Music.

Unless you overwrite/change the default bas redirection settings, you will have more bas from two BL9 than you can ever get with the BL19.
In some cases you might achieve a better/more uniform bas reproduction in the room by keeping the 19 (e.g. in the back of the room) and by tweaking the redirection settings (have a look at the Technical Sound Guide if you want to dive into this).
However this is not for ‘beginners’ and probably won’t be needed in your rather small room.

        Tip!
Be sure to make different Speaker Groups for video and for audio listening (for this also see the Technical Sound Guide).

        P.S.

If you don’t need surround and rear speakers in the new room, you could use one set 18’s and the 19 in another with a BS Core or alike.

Thanks! I had a look at the TSD years ago, I think I will get back to it as soon as I manage to set everything up.

I’m pretty familiar with speaker groups but not the very advanced stuff, it will be a chance to learn something new.

The Core is definitely a good backup plan if I realise I don’t need all the speakers, but AFAIK the Core has only a single 2-channel Powerlink output.
