I have no experience with the Essence myself, but I remembered this thread that might give you some info https://beoworld.dev.idslogic.net/forums/topic/essence-mk1-vs-essence-mk2/

        Hi,

You should do a search in the old forum. There, you’ll find a topic drove by a certain CB.
On this topic and some others, you’ll find a lot of answers and if I recall correctly something about http and https adresses.
That should be a good start.

If you get no helpful answers from this, you should know that in worst case scenario, your Essence will act as a playmaker, which means an expensive (at the time) Airport Express base, with the addition of an auto sense line in, but with the down side of no remote control.

Let us know how what you did with it.

          Hi all.

My wife asked me if we could go from the Pentas into something more modern. 🙂

I found a set of Beolab 8000’s close to home, and as a bonus (at least I thought) a Beosound Essence Mk1 was part of the deal. I heard it in use, the guy was using Spotify.

Once home, I struggled getting it to do anything.

The question is, is it totally obsolete now? Looking at Spotify chat forums, it seems the support for Mk1 stopped in 2008, unless it was a Premium subscription.

Deezer does not work either. The radio says it is stopping Tune-in support now..

Should I just toss it or is there a work-around?

I tried to search for it, but didn’t really find anything. Sorry if this has been covered a thousand times before.

Hello! All this week I’ve been meaning to ask the following question, and this thread seems appropriate:

When shopping for a Beosound Essence, how can I tell from the used product photographs which ones are MK1 vs MK2? Often the sellers themselves are unknowledgeable.

            Thanks in advance,

The mk11 actually includes mk11 in the product name on the product information sticker. An essence mk1 just says “essence”. An essence mk11 says “essence mk11”. There should be no confusion so long as you can see the sticker with the product name, model, serial number on the bottom of the unit.

I have several essence mrk2ls and they all work perfectly with b&O radio and airplay.

I just checked and my version of software is 3047. I have tried to reach out to TWG who seems to be in possession of a newer software. I tried to reset it previously, that may very well be the reason that it does not function now.

So I haven’t totally given up hope yet, and thx for the leads to the old forum. I can see I’m not alone here. 🙂
