For all Google Home experts…….I am not one!

A friend of mine wants to use his 2 M5’s as a stereo pair via Google Home, but says he can’t.

He has 2 M3’s and that works perfectly with these.

      What is the problem there?
Has the SW version something to do here?
Could it have something to do with different Chromecast versions running there?

Are they added to the same room?

          @DR
No, that is a pure Google Home/Chromecast feature.

I still swear a lot every time I am setting up something in google home.

Is chromecast activated on both speakers?

I’d be willing to have a call with him to help him try to solve it.

While Beoplay M3 supports stereo pairing in Google Home, Beoplay M5 is based on an older platform and does not support such feature (nor any Google Home multiroom features / speaker groups any longer).

So do I – or rather did!
It is one of the reasons that I hardly use chromecasting (for sound) anymore…..especially not for multirooming.

But he does generally – so I assume that he has CC enabled.
                I’ll pass on your offer.

So like the M3 it is only possible to cc music in stereo set up? Still no airplay in stereo?

Well – both are ASE products.
So, it must have something to do with the CC version.
I will ask my friend to look after the version in M5 respectively in M5.
                    Or do you know more?
What do you mean by does not support ‘any longer’?

Thanks Leo for noticing my question.

I will have to ask him about this.
But since he has it working with 2 M3’s, I guess he (theoretically) knows how to set up.

                        No, it’s two separate things.

About stereo pairing: they’re both ASE, but different generations. A bit like the new Beosound A9 and Beosound 2 3rd Gen are small upgrades over the older Mozart platform.

The ASE platform on which M5 and Beosound 1/2 1st Gen are based, doesn’t support stereo pairing in any way.

For what concerns multiroom and groups via Google Home, that’s indeed related to the older Chromecast firmware version (v1.29) for which Google has removed the ability to play in groups (v1.52 is the minimum required firmware now for using a Chromecast built-in speaker in groups).

Thanks for clarifying – I’ll pass that on to my friend.
