      Hi all,

my good old BS3000 stopped working this morning. I have contemplated buying an SSD upgraded BM 5 for a while and am ready to do now. I believe I understood how to add music to the BM 5 thanks to this forum. I have two questions though:

      1. I still have an old BeoGram and TapeDeck that I would like to connect to the BM 5. How does that work. The manual is kinda fluffy about the USB Adapter needed. Anyone out there can shed some light on this?
      2. Most BM 5s seem to come w/o the ripping device. Would it be possible to hook up any ordinary USB CD drive to the BM 5 and it works? Or does it have to be B&Os ripping device?

      Thanks for your answers

      cheers

      Torsten

Not knowing the USB another idea comes to mind when you want both a Beogram and a tape deck connected. In this lengthy thread https://beoworld.dev.idslogic.net/forums/topic/beolab-3500-and-1611-converter-settings/page/12/#post-15630 we are experimenting with alternative use of some of B&O’s “black boxes”. We have confirmed that a combination of the 1611 Beolink converter and the MCL2AV can give access to two inputs (tape and CD) on the MCL2AV from a Beolab 2000, Beolab 3500 and from a masterlinked TV. However we haven’t had the chance to confirm if this also will work from a Masterlinked Beosound/Beomaster.

The setup would look something like this:

        BM5 -ML- 1611 -7 pin Datalink- MCL2AV – Beogram/Beocord

          Right!

However, the easiest way would be to use one of these:

          F1AEACB3-1DC3-404D-8E82-BDDB6A664144

Please notice that Steve is only shipping to the UK for time being – but the Behringer can be bought elsewhere….just do a search for it.

And…..if you want to connect more than one device, you’d need some kind of switch too.

As for the 2nd question – I remember back in the days, that I had a stock external USB drive connected….so yes that should work!
I would however, not recommend it – it will be much easier to use a PC/Mac for this, because you will have to tag the files properly in order to have these searchable and showing coverpics etc on the BS5.

I agree with Millemissen that it is probably a simpler solution, as my solution is untested. Also if you only need one input and only ocassionally need the other unit my solution might be overkill

Yeah, I’ve been following this thread with a mixture of amusement, fascination and sheer respect for the amount of knowledge present in this community. I have started to put out searches in ebay classifieds to see whether I can source the components at reasonable prices to also build such a setup.

Thanks for both hints. Found my old USB CD drive and hooked to the Mac. Still works 🙂 So that should be easier. Agreed.

one buying advice for the MCL2AV is try to get one with the original power supply to be sure it has the right polarity on the power connector

I took the ‘OnTop’ model number on my MCL2AV adaptor (A31530B), did a search on UK eBay and found this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401496703764

Although I haven’t purchased one, I think it’s the same adaptor but from Sino American. If I needed one I would give it a try.

Hence you may be able to search for the ‘OnTop’ model number of the EU (2-pin) MCL2AV adaptor and find similar.

EDIT: Other UK eBay hits (for A31530B) show what looks like the same adaptor, but the polarity of the output pins is reversed (the MCL2AV needs centre-negative) so you would need to be a bit careful!

                      Good morning together,

my BeoMaster5 has not been in standby mode for quite some time. The BM5 is linked to BS5 and BL 8000. What strikes also the tracer is not functioned for switching off and turning on at the back any more. Is this a software or hardware issue that the board is defective. Also have already tested different options via the F8 key with connected keyboard at restart, but came to no result.
Does anyone have any advice on what it might be?

Thank you in advance greeting Andreas
