Hello to the forum.
I am an owner of beomaster 1100 receiver. The bulb of stereo indicator has blown. I read in the service manual that the correct bulb is 12v 30mA, the same as the others two for tuning. Is it correct? I saw in some forums that the stereo lamp is 12v 80mA but when I put this wattage, the resistor goes too hot.
So, in conclusion, what is the right bulb for tuning and stereo indicators?
Thank you
31 October 2022 at 09:34 #40381Hi and welcome to the Forum!
I don’t know the exact spec, but if you get them from here you won’t have to worry: https://www.beoparts-shop.com/product/lamp-kit-beomaster-800-901-1100-1700-beocenter-1400-1500-1600-1800/
31 October 2022 at 10:20 #40382Thank you. No, I did not get the bulbs from the link you sent me. I read the service manual and bought them from the local market. But I am still wondering what are the specs of these lamps, especially the stereo bulb. I used a 12v 80mA lamp but the resistor running too hot,
Please someone to inform me.
1 November 2022 at 01:06 #40387Also one more question. I can not understand why insist on Beoparts. A lamp 12v/80mA has the same characteristics even bought from beoparts or elsewhere. I can imagine something special. Am i wrong?
I am not insisting, merely recommending!
To be honest I don’t fully understand the requirement for very specific electronic characteristics, although there is some explanation on the Beoparts page to which I linked. Similarly I don’t fully understand why tape drive belts from Beoparts work whilst other cheaper ones from eBay don’t! Overall, from experience I trust their spare parts supplies hence I continue to recommend them!
1 November 2022 at 01:57 #40388Tape belts are completely different case comparing with cheap chinese ones. This has to do with quality of rubber, tension and a lot of other reasons. A lamp of 12v 80mA is always the same no matter if it lasts for 1 week or 5 years. It depends on quality.
My problem, in this case, is why the resistor runs so hot and if it is normal. Maybe it is. But i need someone more experienced than me to confirm this.
1 November 2022 at 02:46 #40389A lamp of 12v 80mA is always the same no matter
As explained at the Beoparts link, in the BM1100 the stereo indicator bulb is part of the tuning circuit, with current varying with brightness. This won’t be linear due to temperature effects, hence it is critical that the bulb behaviour is correct. Many others on the forum have had similar problems in the past with indicator bulbs that purport to be the correct spec, but do not work in this application.
Of course there may be other (non-bulb related) problems in your tuning circuit, and perhaps others can suggest a solution.

True.
But quality could be the difference.
From Asia you can often buy very cheap lamps meant for use in plastic toys.
They typically have a rated lifespan of, perhaps, 200 hours (and tolerances not worth mentioning).
You will often find these listed on Ebay and similar places for next to nothing.
If you go for this quality it would be a good idea, as suggested in the linked thread, to buy
lots of ten or more and, if you use your Beomaster on a regular basis, you will also
develop good lamp replacement skills.Lamps from Beoparts-shop often have an expected lifespan of 2000 hours, some even 5-8000 hours.
Some lamps sold there are actually custom produced. And the resistor will run warm.
That’s Ohms law.Martin

1 November 2022 at 10:49 #40391Hello Martin,
Thank you for your answer. The resistor r24 that runs hot is 270ohm 3w. Maybe it’s life came to an end. Can I put a bigger resistor eg 330ohm 5w?
How can I order from beoshop. Does it need a new register? The lamps that I use now are auto bulbs with the same characteristics as I said 12v 80mA. I think that the resistor is the problem.

You need to be a little more patient with a specialist question overnight! ?
I assume that you saw this thread and went for 80mA: https://archivedforum.beoworld.org/forums/p/36370/301613.aspx#301613
… but if they don’t work then I recommend Beoparts!
1 November 2022 at 11:43 #40385Sorry for being so unpatient but i was working all night and did not realize the time.
Yes i put a bulb 12V 80mA in stereo indicator but the resistor run so hot in less than 20 seconds so i put it away. Is it obvious to happen this?
Sorry for my silly questions but i am amateur on this equipment

2 November 2022 at 08:55 #40393Thank you Martin. You are very helpful, as always
2 November 2022 at 12:54 #40392Don’t change the value of the resistor.
Besides, a 5W resistor will dissipate just as much energy as a 3W if they are of the same ohmic value.
And don’t think a resistor is bad just because it runs warm.
The resistor in question will run warm. If the lamp has been out – or the
Beomaster hasn’t seen use for a long time, dust on the resistor may emit a warm smell
and even a little smoke for a minute or two as it warms up for the first time.
Not unlike many valve-based items.
That’s all normal. If the resistor has indeed gone bad or measures very wrong, I suggest you ask at Beoparts-shop for a possible replacement.
Beoparts-shop is a webshop, it requires no membership or login.

7 November 2022 at 07:41 #40394Just to inform you, that finally I changed the resistor from 270ohm 2w with a new one 330ohm 5w and now is much better. It runs hot but not so much as it was with no other problems. I hope I did the right!
