      Hi all,

Not been here for a very long time, but refreshed it.

So, I have bought an old Beocord 8000 and it won’t turn on. The fuse is fine, but no power across it. Took the power connector from the transformer off and cleaned it and reinserted it into transformer. No power.

So, upon listening with my ear very close to the transformer, no humming and no small vibration.

Took the transformer out after unplugging it, and now I don’t know how to open the transformer case?

I can see on a sticker on the motor at the cassette drive, that it has been serviced mid 2020.

I can also see, that the 3 big capacitors on the power supply board had been changed to new ones. The deck is very clean inside out. Heads looks very good and so does the pinch roller.

All lubed and cleaned it looks like.

So, how do I get on from here?

      Kind regards,

      Redfox.

btw. I am currently restoring the cassette drive in my old Beosystem 2500 with new belts etc. Works well. It feeds a separate B&O amp (60 watts) and further on to my old set of B&W DM630. It’s been years since I last had A Beocord, and then it was the 9000 and the 8004. Worked well and I shouldn’t have sold them. Now, I play on a Tandberg TCD-3014a and an Otari MX5050BII2E on a Copland amp and B&W 802 series III.

Seeing this Beocord 8000 all alone in a gardenhouse (no fungus or similar), made me feel sorry for it, so took it for 15 usd. I love old Beocord 8000-9000 series decks and I just can’t help it. Had to have it despite being without power.

Before attempting to disassemble the transformer, I would measure the primary and secondary windings with an ohmmeter. This will let you know whether it has opened. If there is resistance on both sides then you can simply hook up the primary to a raw power cord and measure the secondary voltages. If they are fine I would look deeper into the power supply.

The extra fuse is inserted and the Beocord 8000 now fully works. Plays fine. Thanks for the help!

          Kind regards,

          Redfox.

            Thanks MArk,

So I did, and discovered normal Ohm and closed circuits on the secondary side. All normal. Then there’s an extra fuse inside the transformer housing, a bit har to open. But that was broken into pieces. So stole the one from a pcb next to the tape drive, and it turns on 😉

So, tomorrow I am out for fuses and see if the capstan will turn and thereby allowing the heads to stay in play etc. The solenoid moves the heads now, but retracts. Let’s say or hope, that is because of the fuse I removed. Belt looks fine and everything is clean inside. 3 capacitors on the pcb just behind the transformer, has been changed.

Thanks for answering. Very kind of you.

            Kind regards,

            Redfox.

And here’s the Beocord 8000, now with power on:

            så kører vi
