      Good day everybody!

I gradually bought a Beosystem 7000. First the receiver. Then a record player. Now a cassette deck. The cassette deck didn’t work at first (the motor didn’t move, or it tried to move but stopped – probably a problem with the belt). A special workshop in Hamburg has now repaired the device. I connected it earlier. It works well. The problem is that it doesn’t respond to commands from the Beolink1000. I can only operate the device using the buttons on the “drawer”. Of course it could be that something is broken, but I actually think that there is some combination of buttons on the remote control and it suddenly works…

      Does somebody have any idea?

1: The remote is faulty (did you check the batteries?)
        Try another remote!

2: The Beomaster is set to Option 0 – in which case it shall not respond to the commands of the remote.

3: The ir sensor/the ir circuit of the Beomaster is faulty.
Must be looked after by a service person (if you can not yourself).

I just noticed that the cassette deck doesn’t even turn on when you switch the Beomaster to Tape.A. It only works if you turn it on by hand, switch the Beomaster to Tape.A and then operate the device using the buttons on the drawer. Is there a separate component on the cassette deck that “translates” the switching impulses from the receiver? Is this a vulnerable part?

            0. Thank you for your answer!
            1. I tried two different Beolink1000. Same Reslt
            2. Beomaster works fine with the Beoagram, so I guess that isn’t the problem. Right?
            3. Beolink works fine with the Beomaster itsel and with the Beorgam… so I guess that isn’t the prolem. Right?

Also check that the DIN plug connecting the Beocord to the Beomaster has 7 pins. If pin 6 or 7 are missing then there will be no communication between devices and no remote control of the Beocord.

The plug looks fine and fits perfectyl into the Beomaster…The pins are straight and complete.

Alright then….it is just the cassette deck that does not work using the remote!

Right. The Beomaster works with the remote. The Beogram works with the remote. I do not own the Beogram CD so I didn’t check that. The Beocord works, but only manually. I doesn’t switch on by remote, I doesn’t switch off when the Beomaster is switeched off and it can’t be controlled by the remote when I started a tape manually.

Next step eliminate potential failure of the Beosystem 7000’s DIN jack and data link driver for the Tape 1 socket by plugging the deck into Tape 2. (On the Beolink 1000, SHIFT then A.TAPE plays tape deck #2.) If that fails the same old way, you can either send it straight back to Hamburg or you can check the cable yourself by opening up the tape unit to check at the other end. If a break isn’t visible (or measurable with a meter preferably), then send it back to Hamburg for another (hopefully not expensive) fix.

If trackbeo’s TAPE2 suggestion above does not work, I would open up the DIN plug and check that the soldered connection to pin 7 is still intact.

First of all: Thank you very much for the great help here in the forum! And even if it’s very embarrassing for me: the error actually seems to be in the cassette connection from the Beomaster; The Beocord works with the Beolink perfectly on Tape 2. So far I have used a DIN plug with RCA outputs and inputs on Tape 1 in order to have a line-out signal; That’s why it never occurred to me that there could be something wrong with the connection. Thank you all!

Most people pull the cable, not the plug.

Broken wires in the plug are very very common.

And since a 7-pin plug does not work with non-B&O and is replaced often with a 5-pin standard plug, there is no ir control. Usually the 2 extra pins get lost… and they are very rare and very expensive.

And when it comes back to B&O hardware, there is no 7-pin B&O plug available, since 7-pin are non standard and very expensive.

And some versions have protective diodes at the datalink signals. They can short.

You are right, the Tape1 and the CD Port share the same protection diodes D1 and D2.

                                  Tape2 and Phono use D3 and D4.

There is still no CD Player in the system for a test?

D1-D4 are on the Preamp Board.

New datalink pins here: Beoparts-shop Martin

Yes, it’s very good that these very rare parts are available again or still available and that somebody takes a lot of care and love…

… but: these small parts are more expensive than 24 carat GOLD.

So it makes sense: take care on rare B&O parts!

They are more worth than pure gold.

Back to the problem: if Port Tape2 ist working, Tape1 is not working: Check the soldering of the Port connector. The solder on the Preamp makes problems and there are splits/cracks in the solder.
